Welcome 2 France Newsletter September 2016
Hello !

September is the month of being reborn. The sun is still up, the streets are less busy with tourists but the cultural calendar is packed with festivals, exhibitions and celebrations to get the 2016/2017 cultural year swinging.

After a quiet and calm August month, there is absolutely nothing quite like Paris Design Week to suddenly kick start the cultural calendar all over again. If it's your first time attending, be sure to check online for events that interest you. The event is spread all over the city from the 3rd to the 10th of September.

The design aspect of design week is split into 4 main categories and seems to get bigger and bigger each year. Established and new artists will be showcasing their designs in the areas of interior design, fashion, art and my personal favorite, food. The diversity of the event and the fact that its free of charge are the main reasons why people flock to see whats hot for 2016.

Pick of the Week

While it would be impossible to choose one event to focus on the midst of all the creative, one has done exactly that. Arita Saga showcases a cool mix of porcelain and culture from Japan. Educational, enlightening and different with some amazing one of a kind pieces. This event is located in the New Artists district of Les Docks.

Food Glorious Food

The Fête de la Gastronomie 2016 is an event happening all across France. The only downside to this event, is that its only two days long. If you haven't come to Paris to eat, then there is something seriously wrong. This festival of food should be music to your ears as Paris gets even more foodie ( if you can imagine it).

The event runs from the 23rd to the 25th of September and features everything from pop-up restaurants, to cooking classes to street food stalls. One huge tip is to pay attention to the website and find the top restaurants that offer early birds as part of the festival. Some of the famous Michelin star places open their doors for a more casual eating experience.

Pick of the Week

One of most amazing aspects of the food festival is its diversity. Yes, France has some of the best cuisine in the world, but this is not only a celebration or France. It's also a celebration of different cultures. So, if you want an escape from French food (not that you would ever need it, but sometimes its nice to go off the beaten track a bit) Sunday morning there is an Algerian food market, with games, quizzes and charitable causes.

The event starts from 9.00 am and runs until 13.30
The Address is Place d'Aligre in the 12th district (75012)

European Heritage Day

You don't have to be European to celebrate European Heritage Day. If you happen to be in Paris on September 17th and 18th here's a little secret from you to me..... LOTS OF MUSEUMS ARE FREE!! For the more popular ones get there early as there will probably be a line. For the full list, check the website below. The busiest and most popular choice would probably be a toss up between the Arc de Triomphe or Musée d'Orsay.

If you are looking for something a bit more alternative, then the National Archives might be you. Steeped in history, this building is not normally open to the public. European Heritage Day offers guests a unique opportunity to explore a 19th century building which was central yet secret to most of the significant events in Paris for the last 200 years.
