The Bastille Marais area combines two of Paris most vibrant and colourful districts. The many museums, such as the Picasso and Carnavalet, as well as the shops selling contemporary art and design, have attracted the wealthy and the artistic, who now live in this highly desirable part of the city, taking advantage of the great transportation network, the fantastic restaurants, shops and bohemian chic nightlife which really make this the place to be in Paris.

The Marais, (The Marsh), was the height of fashion in the 17th century. The salons of important intellectuals thrived here in magnificent private hotels built for them by the leading architects of the day. But then the royal court packed off to Versailles and the area fell from fashion. Luckily, the entire quarter was considered not worth bothering about for a couple of hundred years. In the mid-sixties, it was declared the first historic preservation district in Paris when it was rediscovered in its almost pre-Revolutionary state. Mansions were converted to museums and soon galleries and boutiques followed. Bars, restaurants and hip tea salons joined the rush. Real estate prices soared. Today, the Marais is the largest historic district in all France, but it is also up-to-the-minute fascinating.

There is street markets nearby which are open daily as well as weekly open-air fresh food markets within walking distance of the apartment make cooking a joy! Centrally-situated: only a few minute walk either to the historic Ile St. Louis, to the Picasso Museum, or to the beautiful, historic Place des Vosges and Bastille. The apartment is very conveniently located as it is on the No. 1 metro line which crosses most of Paris in 15 minutes. Most of historic Paris is within a 20 minute radius on foot.

The apartment is also walking distance from the Gare de Lyon (for southern destination of Paris by TGV) and walking distance to any street around bastille area.
