The Best of Paris in 3 Days

Making the most of your trip to Paris can be challenging if your itinerary only permits you to stay in the city for 3 days, but it is NOT impossible. If you will only be in Paris for such a short time, it would be best to visit the major attractions in Paris first and visit the lesser known and more 'local' destinations, afterwards.

Before your trip, secure a Paris Pass so you can enter museums and other major attractions easily. Needless to say, entrance fees to museums can be expensive but a Paris Pass can make your trip more affordable, convenient, and not to mention, exciting. For more information about the Paris Pass, visit

Your first day in Paris should include a visit to the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral, and a meal from Laduree.

Both the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame Cathedral are considered two of the most significant landmarks in Paris. Start your trip with a little photo-op of yourself with the Eiffel Tower or the Notre Dame Cathedral in the background. Both structures are very historical and are also easily identifiable with Paris.

Your Eiffel Tower trip may take as long as 2 hours or more, that is, if you plan to go up the stairs and take a picture of the Paris skyline. The lines are often long and crowded with tourists so make sure to schedule your trip to the Eiffel Tower early. Word of advice though, if you want a good picture of Paris, the best place to take it would be at Sacré Coeur.

Your next stop, Notre Dame Cathedral in the 4th arrondissement would also count as a "huge" visit, especially if you are religious. This structure has withstood the test of time and to see it in person would be such an exciting opportunity. Spend 2 hours or more to see the gardens that surround the Notre Dame or enter the cathedral to see the stained glass windows which Notre Dame is known for.

Finally, make sure to grab a delicious macaroon from any of the Laduree branches below:

Getting to know Paris a bit more should be in your agenda for Day 2 and the best place to start would be at the Louvre Museum. As we mentioned earlier, a Paris Pass will definitely come in handy at this point and it can help you go through the long lines at the Louvre Museum so use that whenever you can.

It would take you a while in the Louvre Museum: it's a huge place full of paintings and sketches, but after your trip, make sure to go the Sacré Coeur to see one of Paris' best parks. A visit to the Basilica Sacré Coeur would be a good way to end your excursion for the second day.

On your third day, spend the first half of the day at the Orsay Museum. If you have children on your trip, make sure to tag them along too. For the second half of your day, it would be best to walk around Paris, get to know people, and just observe the city.

As always, feel free to add your own twist to this 3-day trip guide.

Edible Souvenirs You Can Bring On Board

Found something delicious in Paris but don't know if you can take it back home? Don't fret, there are new guidelines posted online about the edible souvenirs you can and cannot bring on your flight.

The information below is only applicable to food you can carry in your passenger bag for your own use. Make sure to mention the contents of your luggage; and even if these edible souvenirs are technically allowed on the plane, you may still have to inquire from the airport personnel if they will permit any of them on board. Failure to declare of these products may lead to penalties.

First things first, all sorts of fresh meat and poultry are automatically and strictly not permitted on board. Needless to stay, any meat product bought from the local market may have to be left in the freezer back in Paris since it will not be allowed on the flight. Any product that comes from grain and nuts are also not allowed due to health and agricultural concerns.

Fortunately, the usual souvenirs such as candies, sweets, and chocolates will always be permitted on your flight. This list of permissible souvenirs also include various pastry products in small quantities, olive oil, other precious cooking concoctions, and cheese, except for Cottage cheese and Ricotta, which are a huge NO-NO.

Speaking of pastry products, bread, cookies and cakes are allowed on your flight provided they are small in quantity and if you notify the airport personnel ahead of time.

We hope, that by knowing what's allowed on board, you will find it easier to plan for the souvenir items you might want to take home.

Bucket List

If you're looking for more ideas for your bucket list or a few more items to add to your itinerary for your Parisian escapade, we've listed down some interesting things you can do while in Paris.

Smart Apps for smart travelers

Preparing for your trip to Paris is crucial. that is, if you want things to go smoothly. In this digital age, preparing a trip to the other side of the globe has become even easier with the help of apps which you can download online. If you own an iPhone (sorry Android users, we'll have something for you in our next issue), we've listed down these top 5 iPhone apps which you should get before your trip.

Do you know a really cool iPhone app which should be in our list? Tell us in the comments and we'll include them in our next post.

"Plans? What plans?"
Some tourists visit Paris without a map, and not because they forgot to pack one on their way to the airport but some do that deliberately. Going to Paris without a map is pretty much like reading a book without glasses. We don't encourage going to a foreign city without a travel guide at least, but getting lost in Paris has been described as an exciting experience for many tourists and according to a hitch-hiker's guide to getting lost in Paris, here are the reasons why.

Instant Baguettes!

Vending machines are really common: you can see them almost everywhere, but in Paris, vending machines have taken quite an unusual transformation. For 1 Euro, you can purchase a fresh piece of baguette from a vending machine that also bakes them!

May Day!

May day, May day! On the 1st of May, 2012, most shops and stores will be closed; however, street markets and a few other grocers shops will be open for business, as usual. We highly encourage you to do your shopping early; either do it on the last week of April or wait it out until Carrefour, Monoprix, and Franceprix open on the 2nd of May.

Going to Brussels?

Brussels, which is a train ride away from France, is where you can find a lot of interesting parks, gardens, museums, and may be described as a city that's equally enchanting as Paris. If you're visiting Brussels this month -- or if you're planning to do so in the future, we've listed down a few scenic parks which you should visit.

Something Floral and Something Fancy for Mother's Day

The best gift a child can ever give for his/her beloved mother is a kiss, a hug, and a simple "I love you" -- but a huge bouquet of sweet-smelling flowers is good too.

Flowers have always been the universal symbol for love, comfort, repentance and forgiveness, friendship, respect, and all things pleasant. This Mother's Day (13 May 2012), make sure to get a beautiful bouquet of lillies, roses, and tulips, for your mom.

If you want to spend some time with your mom over a delicious dinner in Paris' best fancy restaurants, these picks will hold special events which you can take part in on Mother's Day.
