The Big Beautiful Beach Break

For many visitors to Paris, they are often confronted with the burning question - Beach holiday or City Break? But, why do you have to choose? OK, so before you go thinking that your geography knowledge is off, you're correct in thinking, Paris doesn't have a beach or even a coast for that matter. But should that stop you feeling like you're at the beach? Here are the top 3 ways to mix sun, sand and (since there's no sea) salsa... in the French capital.

First up, its Paris-Plages. Year after year, this event gets bigger and better. A citywide initiative to transform Paris into an elegant plage (beach). The Georges-Pompidou expressway, all the way to the La Villette canal basin will be lined with deskchairs and fine sand from mid July to mid August. But that's not all, this year there will also be a beach volleyball court set up in the Hotel de Ville... just in case you get bored from too much relaxing

If relaxing is not your thing and you'd much rather party, Latin style, then Barrio Latino is your kind of place. Think of decor that's like a mix between Louisiana purchase and elegant Caribbean and you're on the right track. A great place to salsa and party the night till the early hours of the morning with some amazing live Summer sessions. Don't worry if you don't know how to salsa, there's always a staff member ready to show you.

Ok, so this suggestion might be a little devoid of culture, but who cares. If you're planning on staying a while in Paris, you can't fill every day with museums and history. At least one of those days should be dedicated to plunging down a plastic tube into a big pile of water. Aqua Boulevard is family friendly and so much fun. With palm trees and crystal clear water, you'll feel like you're in a tropical paradise. But once you look up and see the Eiffel tower and try some amazing wine, you'll quickly remember you're in the City of Lights.

July 14th - Bastille Day

With a difficult year just passed, the most important day in the French calendar is just around the corner. Now more than ever, it's important for the French people to celebrate Bastille Day and there are a wide range of activities and events to mark the occasion. Like every year, there will be an amazing firework display from the Eiffel Tower and a military march along the Champs-Elysées but here are two suggestions you probably didn't know about.

Widely considered to be one of the best opera houses in the world, the Opera de Paris is holding a free performance on July 14th of an original ballet performance. Make sure you wake up early and grab a cafe au lait first, as seating is limited and this world class event is bound to fill up quickly. Expect some waiting in line but then expect to be very, very moved.

Celebrating the best in local and international DJs, the Peacock Society Festival runs from the 13th to the 17th of July. A cool mix of hipster and alternative, this electronic music festival located in Parc Floral de Paris in the 12th district of Paris, promises to have some unique chilled out vibes.

A Month of Sports

Parts of Paris have literally shut down as the biggest football event of the year is still going on. On July 10th many may start to breathe a sigh of relief as the UEFA Euro Cup 2016 comes to a close. With several matches a day for each day in July, up to the 10th, Paris is the best place in the world for any football fan. But who will it be at final? France? Spain? Germany? Grab a seat in your favorite Parisian bar to find out!

Don't worry if football is not your thing. On the 24th of July, the worlds most famous bike race rolls into town. The cyclists will enter the city from the north as the 21st and final stage of the race begins in Chantilly. The finish line is, as always along the Champs-Elysées. So check it out for a glimpse of national and international media, sporting heroes and thousands of cheerers. It promises to be a high energy event with a lot of shouting and clapping.
