Welcome 2 France Newsletter August 2017
Hello !

August is the month of tourism and tourists. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your outlook. Lets pretend it's a good thing and celebrate. Most of the Parisians have left the city and cultural life kinda shuts down. Many of the city's theatres and galleries are closed. August is for you as August is for Paris - a holiday, a getaway and a time to relax. The summer sales are still on, across the leading department stores and luxury streets. And while those streets are going to be quite busy - as usual, we have some secret information to help you enjoy your luxury holiday.

Secret Parks of Paris

Historically, the French have had a passion for gardening and the country has some of the most famous gardens and parks in the world, the finest examples of which, can be found in Paris. The Jardin du Luxembourg and the Tuileries are just two of the best examples which spring to mind.

But you probably already know them. If you don't, you can be sure a lot of other people know them, so expect them to be filled with tourists. If you want to get away and enjoy some quiet green space, why not check out these suggestions. A healthy dose of oxygen and some chill out time.

Jardin Naturel
The proof is the name. On the outside it looks wild and overgrown and on the inside, well it's kinda wild and overgrown or natural.. if you will. Located beside the beautiful and haunting cemetery of Père-Lachaise. This neighbour part is larger than you would expect and the high fencing will help you to feel secluded.
120 Rue de la Réunion

Le Jardin Sauvage Saint-Vincent
In order to protect the natural order of things in this green space, it's not permanently open to the public but closed from time to time. Don't think of it as a park but more of a completely natural green space. All the flowers, grass and trees are completely local. Oh and it's based in the stunning Montmartre district.
17 Rue Saint-Vincent
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jardin Alpin
Not very big, but that's not the point. You can find some corner of it to chill out with your great summer read. Located in the 5th district of the city, it runs along Jardin des Plantes, another well known park. So while everyone else is catching some rays in their, you can surround yourself in peace... and 1000 different species of plants.

A Summer of Hockney

While August might not be the most popular month in Paris for exhibitions or gallery openings, this one is a real Summer ticket. The famous British artist has had a long history with Paris. While the ideal moments of a Summer holiday in the city may not involve being inside an art gallery. This one is a bit different.

What does Summer mean to you? Swimming pools, colour and larger than life escapism? That's basically Hockney's work. And what is a trip to Paris without a trip to at least one art gallery. Make it this one. The event is running all month in the iconic modern art gallery - The Centre Pompidou in the 4th arrondissement.

ROCK EN SEINE

Undoubtedly one of the most important events on the music calendar of any rock fan - the annual Rock en Seine brings together some of the most amazing musical arts from across Europe. It's kinda like, a smaller, alternative, less commercial version of Glastonbury - except nowhere near as expensive and much better value.

But you don't need to camp, (you can if you want to), there are day tickets available or a full three day event ticket with no camping. The event is taking place from August 25- 27th and is hosted just outside of Paris. Yes, that's right it's not in central Paris, but very easily accessible by public transport.

Unlike a lot of other events scattered across the French capital, this one has a totally English website. So what kind of music can you expect from this event? Well the legendary PJ Harvey and the super cool The XX to name but a few.

Cinema in Moonlight

Even if your heart is made of stone, the experience of watching a French classic or even an English language movie subtitled in French - it's hard not to be moved. Grab a bottle of amazing wine from the supermarket and sit on the green grass and get sunk into a story line. You don't speak French? Who cares.

Trust me, it's impossible not to be moved by the setting and the people. It really is iconic. The Cinema in Moonlight runs until the 13th of August and is already in full swing. There are a total of nine movies happening all across Paris and the best part of all is, it's completely free.
