Welcome 2 France Newsletter September 2017

The Autumn Festival

One of the most important and dynamic festivals in Paris. The Autumn Festival runs over 4 months and its 2017 line-up is starting this month. The festival features a number of different art forms from cinema, to visual arts, dance, theatre and music. It takes place in several different locations across the city.

Some events are free and for some, you need to reserve a ticket. It all depends. The festival kicks off on September 17th and runs until the 31st of December with multiple events on every single night. This year, there's also an English version of the website, so you can keep updated on all the events, news and updates on your phone - whenever you're in a Wifi area.

Le Grand Feu

Whats a feu? Well, literally translated, this means the big fire - but really Le Grand Feu is much more. The single largest firework display across Europe each year. This 2 hour visual extravaganza makes New Years Eve in London look like a small village party. The amazing display of colour and effects takes place on September 9th. Sorry guys it's not free, so you need to buy tickets but it's money well spent because you'll probably never seen anything like it again. 23,000 people all staring at the sky and don't worry if you can't stand - you can reserve a VIP seat or a lawn deck chair.

The Techno Street Parade

I wonder what this could be.. Well it's pretty self explanatory, I think. Not exactly number 1 on the culture calendar of things to do in the city and not really a family event. Don't expect to feel super French or cultured after the experience but let's be honest - you will have fun, especially if you like electronic music. As the name suggests, it is a street parade but it's not exclusively limited to techno. You can expect to hear Techno-ish sounds from a broader base.

The event has been going for some time with a bit of an up and down roller-coaster history of success. It's fair to say, some years have been misses. Fingers crossed it's not this one. We included it, because at Welcome2France, in our newsletter, the ultimate goal is to tell you about the things you probably didn't know where happening in the city. This event runs on September 23th. The official website is a disaster ( sorry guys, but it is), but check out the link below for line up and addresses of where the parade is going to stop... Happy Raving....

A day for all of Europe

We told you about this last year - yes we know! And we are telling you about this year again.. why? Because it's amazing, it's free and it can be enjoyed by so many different people. A fantastic cultural event and institutions that highlights one of the many benefits of being European. European Heritage Day will take place on the 16th and 17th of September.

There are no less than 15,000 monuments, museums and sites across France that are taking part and a lot of those are in the capital. This is a great opportunity to visit some truly world class museums absolutely free. But it's not really the price that attracts the crowds, it's more about the energy and the spirit of the event. And there's so much to choose from....

Of course you know about the Louvre and D'Orsay but there are a host of others you don't. If you want to go the main museums, by all means, but you can expect large crowds. But luckily, there's an English language website with a full list of all them. There's about two and half thousand in and around Paris so ....happy hunting with that.
