Welcome 2 France Newsletter February 2018
Hello !

Long ago the arrival of February used to signify a rebirth. It was the beginning of Spring and the arrival of new buds on the trees and flowers in the park. The reality is a little bit different. It's still winter so you can expect to be cold but 2018 is finally finding its feet. Theaters, museums and galleries are publishing their annual plans to showcase the cultural offerings for the rest of the year. We've selected some cool and unique events that we think will be of interest to you this month.

Valentines Day

Oh how clique! Well, clique is a French word, so it's fitting. All things considered it is impossible to talk about February and Paris and not talk about February 14th. The most romantic day of the year in the most romantic city of the year. Boat cruise on the River Seine or evening views of the Eiffel Tower? Sure, but at Welcome to France, we've got some better options. Here are four of our top suggestions.

Music at the Musée d'Orsay
Long considered by many to be the second best art museum in Paris, this place is perhaps the most important impressionist museum in the world. Often overlooked by guests who are only staying a short while in Paris, the Musée d'Orsay really is a must. Also, on the 1st and 6th of the month, treat yourself and a special someone to a classical music performance that you will never forget. Reasonably priced and currently plenty of tickets still available but sure to check out Debussy en liberté.

Swanning Around in the Lake
If you miss the music opportunity but you want something artistic and elegant in order to express yourself ( romantically ), then this is a good option and is even available on the night of the 14th. Witnessing Tchaikovsky's Russian masterpiece, it's hard not be moved and from the 10th to the 18th, the ballet performance is taking place in two different venues. Both beautiful in their own unique way. But just don't mix up the dates.

Butte Beygeyre
Totally free and completely romantic and guess what, no one really knows about it. It's not exactly the world's most beloved play, or elegant classical music but you won't forget it, trust me. What is it? Well, it's a just a lovely view of Paris and to watch the sunset from here is truly romantic. I've done it multiple times ( alone, but that's another story). With stunning views of the Sacré-Cœur, there is one cute bench, and if you get there at the right time, it's yours. Hats and scarfs at the ready as it's a bit chilly.
Rue Georges Lardennois & Rue Rémy de Gourmont, 75019

The Museum of Romantic Love
What? Is this real? Yes it is. If you think about it, it kind of makes sense. The world's most romantic city and the city with the best museums. It's not going to be long before someone put the idea together. Is it romantic? Well, that depends on you but the garden is a lovely little spot to get some lunch. Set in an 1830's style house, it has lots of old stuff and rather odd statues. Pick up something a bit different in the gift shop.

16 Rue Chaptal, 75009

The Year of the Dog

Personally I'm not a fan of December 31st. Everything in my city literally doubles in price. The streets and bars are crowded, so you can never get a drink and there is a real sense of pressure that you absolutely must have a good time or else you're not doing it right. However, Chinese New Year? Yeah that I can do.

We all know the event or at least we've heard it but a lot of people don't know what it entails. Well, amazing food for one thing. Like many world cities Paris, as a very large, old, vibrant, and important population of Chinese and Southern Asian people. It's a day for families as much as it is a day of partying.

But what exactly can you do? Where does it take place? And when is it? Good questions and the short answer is February 16th, 13th District in a place called Triangle de Choisy. This area is the largest Asian area in Paris and the epicenter for the events. There's a dragon parade, concerts, markets stalls and my personal favorite, food, food, food.

What about the Kids

We rarely take the time here at Welcome2France, to specifically talk about the fun activities for young people or for families. OK, Paris is the ideal luxury romantic getaway but it is also a family friendly place and millions of families live in or around this great city. Yes, you have Disneyland and believe me, it's great but you also have some other options. Here are just two suggestions that you may not have thought about.

Once Upon a Time

A fascinating and completely unique experience. This exhibition perfectly marries the themes of fairytales and science. Both adults and children will find this entertaining, educational and enlightening. Journey through 10 popular children's stories such as The 3 Little Pigs and through the stories you will learn about science! How? Well, you'll have to go to see. Located in the Science Museum, in the 19th, the exhibition is open everyday, for the entire month of February.

Théâtre Mogador
Described by some of the leading art critics in Paris as a little bit of Broadway in Paris, this amazing theater is almost 100 years old. A huge auditorium, you can expect to see shows like Wicked and the Lion King. Who needs Broadway or the West End when you have this. It's a perfect family night of fun. From February 17th till March, the institution is showing a musical of the American classic, the adventures of Tom Sawyer. Book as soon as you can to get the best seats in the house.

All Hail César

February is a remarkable month for art and culture. There are so many different events happening across the city. Some of them will be here for a number of months, so we can talk about them later. But if you are visiting Paris in February this is definitely one of the hottest culture tickets in town.

The first ever event of it's kind, César Baldaccini was and still is considered to be one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th Century. He has held hundred of exhibition across the world until his death in 1998. Hosted by the Centre Pompidou, the event spans the entire professional life at the artist.

From the age of 25 until his death, members of the public will be able to see 100 different objects specifically chosen to represent his work, his life and his influences. It is open everyday until 9pm except for Tuesday and the entry fee is 15 euros. Be sure to put in your calendar.
