You can brace the outdoors and enjoy all the amazing cultural and culinary delights of Springtime in the French capital. Hurray for Horses

No, not for eating, for riding. The month of March sees one of the most important equestrian events in the world. It's called Dimanches au Galop ( Sunday at the races, basically), and runs every Sunday from the 18th of March all the way to May. It's an informal affair, unlike a lot of the other major horse riding events around the world and a lot of extra fun and activities can be found there, so even if you're not a horse fanatic, you'll be entertained.

The event is located in the world famous Saint Cloud and Auteuil racecourse and has free entry. It's a little bit outside of central Paris so make sure you check before you travel. Located about half way between central Paris and Versailles ( with its famous palace ), it's not accessible by metro but you can get there by national rail.

Dimanches au Galop is not the only horse related in Paris this month. Less betting, less speed but more elegance and located in the centre, you can also check out Saut Hermès. It's a show jumping competition spread out over three days. Here you can see some of the best riders in the world. Starting on March 16th, it's runs until March 18th and there are nine events daily.

The event takes place in the iconic Grand Palais in the 8th district. The building itself is a national treasure and worth a visit just on its own. The link below has all the other information you need. One important thing to know is that no other animals are allowed on the site during the event. Which makes sense, I guess as there's horse all over the place. But also no bags, only very very small ones. Why? Not quite sure.

Passion for Fashion

Close your eyes and think of Paris and what do you think of..... Eiffel Tower maybe or something romantic. For me, and I imagine, like a lot of people.... fashion. Paris is the undisputed fashion capital of the world. Last month, we talked all about Paris Fashion week, which is arguably the most important week in the world of fashion.

This month, we are adding a little bit of history and culture to the subject of fashion. From March 3rd at the beautiful Palais Galliera ( or Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris to give it its full title) you can catch a marvelous event. The fashion museum inaugurates an exceptional retrospective dedicated to the designer Martin Margiela, a central and singular figure of the 20th century.

Never heard of him? OK, admittedly, I hadn't either. But we should have. If you have any interest in fashion then you will love this event. Located in the 16th district of Paris, you can expect to pay 12 euros ( or 9 euros concession) and expect to spend about 2 hours in the building. Or all day, if you're a super fan.

Run Run Run

Maybe all that horsing around (or the very idea of it) make your think about doing your own "gallop". Well March is the perfect month for some exercise. The city is bursting with activities to celebrate the glorious fact that it's not totally freezing. You could spend a long time thralling through the internet to find some but at Welcome2France, we found the best two. On March 4th, the half marathon comes to France. If you are a sports person or a health freak, the 21.5 km journey is just a walk in the park.

And it literally starts in one, at the Bois de Vincennes - one of the largest green spaces in the city. You expect about 40,000 people to take part and the energy is just great. There's also a shopping village and live music and bands dotted around the route. The Verticale de la Tour Eiffel challenge is a little bit more interesting. The nations most iconic building will host a really cool alternative sports event on March 15th. Essentially, it's pretty much a case of "Who can climb up the Eiffel Tower the fastest". There's only 1665 Again, like the marathon, you don't have to take part to feel the energy, you can just stand there. That's my favorite sport - standing.
