Welcome 2 France Newsletter April 2018
Hello !

April 1st is Easter Sunday and lets face it, there couldn't possibly be a better start to the month. Delicious food, and far too much chocolate is a good start to say the least. Schools are on holidays and the French capital is overflowing with cool activities for young and old alike. This month also sees the start of some pretty spectacular exhibitions in some of the best galleries in the world. This month, we've selected some cool, alternative art events. And also, it would be impossible to talk about this month without mentioning the most important thing.... chocolate.

Art Paris Art Fair

Celebrating 20 years, this festival is an absolute must on any art lover's calendar. Hailed by many, as the defining artistic event of the Spring season - if you are in Paris during the 5th to the 8th of April - you really shouldn't miss this. Yes, it's amazing to see the Louvre but this event will tell you where art is right now.

Located in the stunning Grand Palais beside the river Seine, the event will showcase some of most contemporary art from over 140 galleries located in and around the Paris area. Every year there is a destination of honor (kinda like a geographical theme or inspiration). Last year it was Africa, and this year it's Switzerland.

We hate to single out a single artist in the event (total lies, we love doing it), but whilst having a rather intense browse through some of the artists, Christoph Von Weyhe cropped up, as an engaging, modern and unique artist, whose paintings are worth a look. You can expect to pay 25 euros and spend about 3 hours. Enjoy.

Chocolate

While historians will tell you mans greatest achievement was either fire or the wheel, they are, in fact, wrong. Mans greatest achievement was chocolate. Dark, milk, white, in an egg, spread on toast, covered on a biscuit... I could go on all day. If you are lucky enough to be in the French capital over Easter - check these places out

Maison Georges
The sign outside says museum but fear not, it's not educational. Located in Montmartre, the chocolate is delicious and there's a great variety. It's not a cafe so you just buy and go. While you are in the store, you can try the free samples, search for the perfect gift to take home and also admire the amazing chocolate sculptures of famous buildings, pirate ships and everything in between.
7 Rue de Steinkerque, 75018

La Chocolaterie de Cyril Lignac
Cyril Lignac's concept of combining luxury and chocolate by creating a Cocoa Lounge, has proved a huge hit in Paris. Popular with locals and tourist alike, if you want to try something a bit different, go for the chocolate soup. The hot chocolate is also rumored (by me) to be the best in Paris. Skip dessert when you're having lunch and go straight here instead.
25 Rue Chanzy, 75011

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arnaud Larher
Warning - For Serious Chocolate Lovers Only. The amazing selection of confectionery heaven on display here is truly a marvel. If Cyril Lignac is combining luxury and chocolate- then it would be fair to say that Arnaud Larher is combining art and chocolate. With a strong emphasis on aesthetics, make sure you take a few snaps.
93 Rue de Seine, 75006

Un Dimanche à Paris
You don't have to go on a Sunday - it's open every day of the week. Fois gras au chocolat anyone? Yes, it's real and probably the only place in the world where you can get it. Originally a tea room, this romantic place is perfect for a date and the decor will take you decades back.
8 Cours du Commerce Saint-André, 75006

Urban Riders

One of the great things about this newsletter is being able to talk about alternative events, that you may not know about. It's great having a guide book and map, they are make you feel safe. Tripadvisor is also awesome because you can see honest feedback about the things you going to do or places you are going to see. But it can be difficult to find that one special alternative event. Urban riders is just that. Interested in off the beaten track and cool modern art? Then you'll love this.

Urban riders is the first solo exhibition by Mohamed Bourouissa and this month, it's making its way to Paris. It has already made waves in the U.S (mainly NYC where it received very positive reviews). Often gritty and and with a sharp focus on marginalized people in society his work includes a fresh look at people like prisoners, the unemployed and illegal street peddlers.

Located in the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, a ticket will cost you 8 euros. The glory of this ticket is that you can also see some other exhibitions that are taking place in the building. This museum is often overlooked by tourists who don't have time to see everything and favor the Centre Pompidou instead. A good choice, but before you decide, take a look at the artists work on the link below.
