These are My Go-To Shops for Ice Cream in Paris

February 01, 2025
Even with so many sweets and desserts, we still love ice cream here in Paris. We haven't forsaken them for the bonbons and macarons! There are still many great ice cream shops in Paris, as many as the city's beloved cafes and famous restaurants. As a sweet tooth myself, I can't even tell you how many times I've been to some of them. My favorite is La Crème de Paris near Notre Dame. Not only does it serve ice cream, but they use it to sop crepes! I love it! Berthillon, on the other hand, is an institution of an ice cream shop in Paris. You shouldn't miss it!

Berthillon

No list of the best ice cream shops in Paris is complete without Berthillon. When hotel owner Raymond Berthillon opened his eponymous store on Île Saint-Louis in 1954, I'm sure he never would've thought that it would become an institution of a hotspot. The place offers 48 different flavors, each more delectable than the next, and all made with the freshest ingredients possible. It's no wonder there's often a long line here. Heck! I would (and have!) line up here even when it's cold outside.

La Crème de Paris

I regularly eat out in Paris and my absolute favorite place to get ice cream is La Crème de Paris. Now, this place is a little bit different as it's not exactly an ice cream shop. It's more of a cafe that specializes in desserts, so it doesn't only focus on ice cream. Does this mean you should skip this one out? Of course not! If you have time, get a table at La Crème de Paris and order their homemade ice cream or milkshakes. Their flavors might be a bit basic, but I tell you—they're good!

Une Glace à Paris

Having once won the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France Glacier” (Best Ice Cream Maker in France), Une Glace à Paris is truly worth your while (and money!). It's not necessarily a favorite of mine because their flavors are a bit out there for me, but I can't deny that their ice cream is good! It's not just that its founders, Emmanuel Ryon & Olivier Ménard, go above and beyond in making new and exciting ice cream offerings, but they always do it well. Regardless of your personal preferences, every scoop you get here will be the highest of quality!

La Glacerie

I don't frequent the Marais district all that much since I live in the 16th arrondissement but when I do go there, I always stop by La Glacerie on Rue du Temple! I don't just love it, my entire family is crazy about it too! While my wife and I love David Wesmaël's more sophisticated flavors, our kids can't get enough of his ice cream chocolate bars. So it's an ice cream shop in Paris for the whole family! What's not to love?

La Glace Alain Ducasse

Alain Ducasse has a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris and while it's not this ice cream shop, you can still tell that he's given this place his signature high-quality haute cuisine touch. The ice cream here is so rich and the flavors are so deep, that you almost wish you could enjoy it in a baroque restaurant overlooking the Eiffel Tower. I've tasted a bit of their ice cream myself and it looked and tasted expensive!

Where: 38 Rue de la Roquette, 75011

Glaces Glazed

Glaces Glazed approaches serving ice cream as if it's haute couture. They have their own selection of flavors, but each cup is tailor-made to fit their customers' unique tastes. Are they out of the ordinary? Some are. I mean, I haven't found a place that could make an ice cream cup inspired by pizza! For the most part, however, many of them are classic and familiar and that's not a bad thing. I've certainly never had a bad experience getting ice cream here!

Gelati d’Alberto

This is another one that I don't necessarily frequent, but when I do go here, I always leave fulfilled and satisfied! Gelati d’Alberto is on Rue Mouffetard right smack in the middle of the Latin Quarter in the 5th arrondissement. You can already tell by its name that the place offers more gelato than classic ice cream but that's not even the real kicker. What I enjoy most about it is how they craft their cones into these extravagant flower shapes that you almost don't want to eat. It's become a tradition of mine to post my cone on Instagram before taking a lick!

Where: 45 Rue Mouffetard, 75005

Pozzetto

Now, if you want true gelato in Paris, look no further than Pozzetto on Rue du Roi de Sicile in the 4th arrondissement. I admit I haven't been here myself but a work colleague of mine has and he gave me a taste of their Pistachio gelato. My verdict? It's out of this world! Take note that what I got was a leftover cup he left in his freezer for a day. I needed something sweet to eat at the time so when he gave that gelato to me, I didn't even care that it was a day old. And you know what? It didn't even taste a day old! That should tell you how good Pozzetto's gelato is!

Glace Bachir

It was only recently that I first went to Glace Bachir near Sacre Coeur in the 18th arrondissement and I still can't forget about it. It was the first time I tasted their 100% authentic and organic Lebanese ice cream and you know what? I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that I think I prefer it more than gelato! The flavor and texture were just so fascinating and the sweetness was just right that I couldn't get enough of it. So thank you, Glace Bachir, cause now I put on a few pounds and can't fit in my favorite jeans!

Where: 58 Rue Rambuteau, 75003

Pierre Hermé

Pierre Hermé isn't just a delicious pastry destination! It's also one of my favorite shops to get ice cream in Paris. I honestly didn't notice their ice cream selection much before since I loved their other pastries better. It took my friend who treated me to their ice cream last year for me to realize that I've been a huge moron for having never tasted it before. Pierre Hermé's ice cream is good with a capital G! I've been told that it's the perfect antidote against the extremely hot summers of Paris and you know what? I agree!

Let me share with you what I think are the best places to get ice cream in Paris. I've always believed that Paris is and was always the ultimate authority on sweets and these ice cream shops are proof of that.
